Software Engineering
- Engineering Electives:
Software Engineering students are required to take four engineering elective courses, which can be any SYSC or ELEC courses at the 3000-level or above. Up to two of these courses may instead be selected from the list of Computer Science Electives for Software Engineering, which is available on the Engineering Academic Support Office website. Note that the list of permitted COMP electives changes every year.
You should also note that these lists are only of courses that will count towards your degree, not courses that you will necessarily be allowed to take. Most of you will not have the prerequisites to take several of these courses, some are restricted to students in particular programs, and some preclude additional credit for courses already in your program. Furthermore, since space is limited in these courses, and priority in the COMP courses is given to students in Computer Science.
If your CGPA is over 10.0, you can also take part in the Accelerated Pathway program, which will allow you to count up to two SYSC courses at the graduate level towards your undergraduate degree in place of two electives. These courses will also count towards a M.A.Sc. degree at Carleton if you wish to continue your studies here. To register in graduate courses you must complete the form at https://ughelp.sce.carleton.ca/info?contact and provide the course(s) you want to take. Instructions on how to register will be provided, typically within about two weeks. Until you get permission to register, you should register in suitable undergraduate electives.
Remember that you must meet the prerequisites, listed in the University Calendar, for all courses you wish to take, and any elective courses you choose cannot preclude additional credit for required core courses in your program.
If you have any questions, please ask them by completing the form at https://ughelp.sce.carleton.ca/info?contact
